She lives in a joint family and has studied till the ninth standard and has three sons who are married and settled. As a family they have 13 acres of land and are cultivating different types of seasonal vegetables, with which she has been managing the household after her the death of her spouse.

Shanthamma attended the MOVE training, after which she decided to sell vegetables locally, in the surrounding villages and in Kolar taluk market every Monday, in order to maximise her profit margins. She said, “I learnt many good things from the MOVE training from the various activities and games. I learnt that customer is the king and as per the demands of customers, I sell fresh vegetables at a reasonable price.”

After starting this business, Shanthamma commented that this business had become the main livelihood source for her family. She said that her family had stopped buying vegetables from outside because the excess vegetables that they are unable to sell, are used for household consumption. Through her vegetable business Shanthamma earns a profit of INR 200 per day, which is sufficient for her and her family’s needs.
