About the Member

Navajeevana Sanghatane was started on 14th August 2014 in Bangalore. It was registered on 20th August 2023. This CBO focuses on female sex workers and their issues. The CBO has nine board of directors currently, and nine staff members. They also have seven teachers for the tuition centres. There are 3700 members associated with the CBO. Their major work is with women, children of sex workers, and on social entitlements. The work is focused only in Bangalore. Over the years, they have expanded their SHGs and scope of work by working with children as well. They also conduct health camps, workshops on health etc.

Key Activities

Children of sex workers

Project Kali focuses on the education of children of sex workers. This project was formed because the children were not going to school and the parents could not find a way to help them. Through this project, tuition centres were established to help the children get used to school-based education. The grasping ability of every child is different and hence the teaching methods are adjusted accordingly. The project helped the children cover the basics of languages and other subjects. The children found it difficult initially but they learnt quickly.

Working with women

There are 20 SHGs associated with the CBO. There are 12 to 18 members in each SHG. They help establish businesses, acquire loans, and develop skills for women. Skills classes include tailoring, embroidery etc. The businesses include textiles, fruits, tea shops, flower shops, and beauty salons, juice shops among others.

Social entitlements

The CBO helps the women and their families in getting the relevant social identity cards. PAN card, Voter ID, Aadhar card, Caste certificates, applying for pensions, opening bank accounts, and registering marriages amongst others. The details are given below.
