Suvarna is from a small village called Donnur in Bhagewadi taluk, Vijayapura. She attended the MOVE training with other sangha women and said that she learnt a lot of things related to business strategies and concepts, through activities and games like the goal setting game and the wedding card making game.
After the training Suvarna began to think about possible businesses that she could venture into. Finally, she settled on doing something she is very familiar with, namely, sheep rearing. Sheep rearing is something she has engaged in since her childhood. After doing some research and getting guidance from members from her sangha that she is part of (Mahaskathi Mahila Okuta), she was able to avail five sheep under the MNREGA scheme.
As per the directions from the government she had constructed a shed for protection of the sheep which cost her INR 30,000. She gets fodder for the sheep from her own farm and neighbouring farms, which does not cost her. Suvarna said, “There is a good demand for sheep in the Bhagewadi animal market, where we can purchase and sell. I have sold four sheep at the price of INR 25,000 and purchased five lambs from the market. Our net earnings from selling sheep are INR 24,000. Going forward I wish to expand my business to 25 sheep.”
