About the Member

Milana Sanghvidyagiri Women’s Collectives was registered in the year 2008. The Women’s Collectives has nine board members and 17 staff members. There are five crisis committee members and five economic committee members. The Women’s Collectives focuses on the gender and sexual minorities communities and their issues. This Women’s Collectives specifically concentrates on male and transgender sex workers and the LGBTQIA+ community. This Women’s Collectives was started to reduce the prevalence of HIV in Bagalkot but over the years it included advocacy, entitlements and other work that brings visibility and reduces violence and stigma that the community faces.

Key Activities

Crisis management

The crisis work includes suicide prevention through mental health counselling, and addressing violence against the community among others.

Livelihoods

Businesses are also set up for the community members like small shops etc. WCD loans have been acquired for 550 community members.

Advocacy and Networking

Through advocacy and networking, three intersex people and three other community members are employed in Government departments.
