Shubam is a 24-year-old sex worker. The incident happened in Doddaballapura, Bangalore rural in 2021. She was unwell and went for a check-up to a hospital. She was in the general ward and a blood test was taken for the check-up. Post the results of the test, the hospital staff found out that she was a person living with HIV. They immediately asked her to leave and denied her any treatment. She approached the union with the issue and they staged a protest against the hospital.
The hospital superintendent apologised to the Union and Shubam and offered proper treatment to her. The superintendent promised that this kind of behaviour and action would not be repeated.
